I decided to move my blog to a new platform and after some considerations I choose TypePad as my new home.
Until now I used Community Server which turned out to be a big mistake. Not because it's a bad platform, on the contrary, they have quite a lot of cool features, but because you don't have the option to export your posts.
I can understand the line of thought behind this decision of the developers of Community Server. If I can't export all my posts, it means that by moving to some other platform I will have to lose them all, which in turn practically locks you into their system.
But this way of thinking is simply put - old fashioned. The web has changed dramatically in the last year, and competition dictated that we should all think of just one thing - how to make the user experience better. Even when he decide to leave us.
I will never again use a platform or any site that doesn't let me take my information away. My posts, My lists, My work is - mine, and I expect to be able to take it with me wherever I go.
UPDATE: Thumbs up for Community Server (Talligent's). Although I criticize their system, they wrote a reference about this post in their daily blog. This is the kind of open attitude that all companies should adapt.
